I’m Asma’u or Shaheedah, a Senior Software Engineer based in Abuja. For over a decade, I’ve been obsessed with the "how" behind large-scale systems. Moving from the simplicity of mobile apps to the complexity of distributed cloud infrastructure.

The Foundation

My journey began at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul, where I spent six years earning both my BSc in Software Engineering and MSc in IT. In those early years at Lityum Ltd, I focused on the palm of the user's hand, building Android apps for the music and tourism industries. It was here I learned that software is only as good as the problem it solves for a human being.

Scaling Impact

Returning to Nigeria, I shifted my focus toward enterprise-grade systems. At SWGlobal, I built software for the Nigerian government, and later at Coamana, I led a team of six to build vital tools for MSMEs. During this era, I realized that while code is important, leadership and mentorship are what make projects scale. This led me to found Kodekamp, where I still work to bridge the digital gap for kids in underserved communities.

Global Infrastructure

The last few years have been a deep dive into high-scale distributed systems. At the BBC, I worked on "The Grid," integrating complex digital asset management tools and contributing back to the open-source community. This path led me to Microsoft, where I served as a Subject Matter Expert for the Mesh SDK (Session Service), building the backbone for shared digital experiences.

Most recently, at Norebase and Kijiji Canada, I’ve bridged the gap between Backend and Cloud Engineering. Whether it's optimizing Azure costs using Pulumi or architecting microservices on GCP with Java and Kafka, I thrive when I’m making systems more resilient, observable, and cost-effective.

The Intersection of Climate & Housing

Currently, I am exploring a different kind of architecture. I’m working on the intersection of climate and housing with Tubali Earthworks. While still in the early stages, we are investigating how sustainable building practices and earth-based materials can address the modern housing crisis. It is a pivot toward the physical world, fueled by the same curiosity that drives my software career.

Life Beyond the Screen

When I’m not architecting systems, I’m usually building worlds with words. I am a published poet. My collection, Solitude, is available on Amazon and I am currently drafting my first novel: a piece of historical fiction set in the 19th-century Sokoto Caliphate.

Physically, I push my limits through sports. Whether it’s swimming, tennis, or lifting weights, I stay in motion. I'm always moving. Most recently, my focus has shifted to the discipline of Kickboxing and Muay Thai. I have a goal to step into the ring for a professional fight at least once thereby testing my endurance in the most literal sense.
